Oomph!,
the industrial metal superstars return
in this smashing album, creating a great
blend of electronics, hard metal and sing-along
melodies, if you speak German, that is.
The
album opens with the controversial yet
extremely catchy single "Gott ist
ein Popstar" [Translation: 'God
is a Popstar']. This song features a
danceable beat, and infectious pop vocals
in the chorus. This makes a brilliant
opener, and sticks in your head.
'Die
Schlinge' is another catchy song. This
ballad opens with a harmonica, which
is rarely heard in this genre. The song
is slower paced, and alternates between
a light verse, and a contrasting scream-along
chorus.
'Mein
Schatz' will please the metal fans.
This is a heavy song and features both
headbangable parts and sing-along metal,
and is very likely to be played in metal
clubs. The mixture of eerie vocals and
heavy riffage makes a brilliant track.
The song's title translates to 'My Precious',
and if you understand the lyrics, will
realise it is based on 'Lord of The
Rings' and is written in the character
Gollum's point of view.
The
album progressively becomes more electronic
towards the end and closes on a crescendo
with the awesome 'Menschsein', a mix
of synth and extremely heavy guitars,
bringing the brilliant album to a worthy
end.
'GlaubeLiebeTod'
will definitely impress fans of metal,
and will earn some industrial followers
along the way. The album is superbly
produced, with clear vocals and our
German speakers get the bonus of angsty
lyrics! Almost each song adds something
new to the Oomph! mix, but is still
maintains their classic sound. If you
like your guitars heavy, this an album
worth checking out.
