Clavia's
Nord Lead 2x differs little from the original
Nord Lead 2. It features greater memory
storage and polyphony (20 voices). The
NL 2 still holds its own as one of the
top virtual analogs on the market.
Ease of Use:
Simplicity and excellent
ease of use are the NL 2x's greatest strengths.
It's thetype of synth that takes little
time to become acquainted with; even for
those who have little experience with
hardware subtractive synths. The Nord
Lead 2x lacks complexity in comparison
to other popular VAs (e.g. the Access
Virus). However, this no detraction, rather
it allows the user to dive right in and
begin programing without a significant
learning curve. Every parameter you will
regularly want to alter has its own knob
or button; allowing quick and easy control.

Sound and Features:
Sound quality is perhaps
the most important criteria when judging
any piece of gear. The NL 2x is capable
of creating aggressive bass patches in
short order. It has a characteristic bright
and biting timbre which cuts through the
mix; especially useful for informal settings.
The Nord Lead 2x does an average job when
it comes to pads, FX sounds, and analog
style drum patches; adequate, but nothing
truly unique.
The Nordlead 2x lacks an effects section,
for some users this may be a major limitation.
Personally, I've never been bothered by
the lack of effects. The synth features
two LFO's and a modulation envelop section.
Bread and butter effects can easily be
achieved if you know how to use your LFO's.
Overall, I highly recommend
the Nord Lead 2x. It's sound is unique
and it has broad possibilities for both
the novice and professional alike.
