These things seem to be selling fairly cheap on eBay. It seems some of you have a used one? How limited are they? Will one last?

I'm considering buying an older used drum machine to improve my rig because I don't currently own one.

I could go the soft-synth route but now my recording computer is getting older at this point. I'm basically looking for something to help me get some weird synth-y drum sounds into a rhythm section shape.

I've got one and I think it's pretty good for what I want it to do. Namely, as a box to use live amongst my other stuff. That said, I don't really use it for drums as such. more for glitchy rhythmic elements and synthesised squelches. Seeing as I've no played a gig for a couple of years now.. it's not seeing much use but it's a fun little box.

It sounds cheap. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my analog drum sounds, but it has a generic tone. It is laid out well and it is fun to use. I recall seeing a synth band from Indiana once called "Space Patrol" or something like that and all they used was an Arp Omni, Korg MS2000, Roland SH-101, and a Korg ER-1.
You could do a lot better as far as analog drums go. But it is a fun toy, none the less. If I found one for <$100, I'd consider picking it up just to have around.

Nevermind! I found one for $100. I have to wait until the 20th, but that's a police hold for ya.

I just scored mine last week, but what I love about it is the audio in buttons, because it kind of acts like a trigger gate. You can adjust the time of the gate (long/short) with the decay, and you can really twist the sounds how you like them. Even can do distorted snares/kicks, if that's what you'd need. It kind of plays better with the ea-1 than it does my dx200, but I like to hook them all together, and it's insane when they are all chained together with midi.
